You start in the Trading Combine — a one-step evaluation on a monthly subscription — and once you pass you move to an Express Funded Account. It is a futures firm (with forex also available), traded on TopstepX, NinjaTrader, Quantower, and other supported platforms.
The 50K Combine costs $49/month with a $3,000 profit target and a $2,000 maximum loss limit; the 100K is $99/month with a $6,000 target and $3,000 max loss. There is also a 'No Activation Fee' variant at a higher monthly price ($95 and $149 respectively) that removes the funded-account activation fee.
Up to 90% of profits. Payouts become available after you record a set number of winning trading days — typically three to five — on the funded account.
It is the trailing drawdown threshold below which you can no longer trade the account. Topstep uses an end-of-day trailing model, so the limit follows your closing balance upward as you profit, protecting against excessive losses. There is also a separate daily loss limit that applies within the Trading Combine and Express Funded Account.
You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into agreements. Trading takes place during the market hours defined by the relevant exchange.
A range of futures — equity index, energy, metals, agricultural, interest rate, and currency contracts — and forex is available as well, all within exchange market hours.
Topstep evaluates consistency as part of maintaining profitability while following the trading rules over time, rather than as a single fixed percentage in the evaluation. The key hard limits to respect are the Maximum Loss Limit and the daily loss limit.
Topstep expects professional conduct — discipline, following the rules, and treating the community with respect — and prohibits strategies that create excessive risk or resemble market manipulation. It also runs support programs like the Focused Trader and Responsible Trading programs to encourage sound risk management.
